friends who are foodies

Thank goodness for friends who are foodies. It's so nice that they appreciate food (and talk about food) as much as I do.

Here are some random food notes about my friends:

N.C. – Would drive 12 hours to Montana in order to buy salad dressing from McKenzie River Pizza and bring it back to Oregon in a cooler. Okay, slight exaggeration. A visit to friends in Montana was the main purpose of the trip... the dressing was a bonus.

T.H. – Loves tomatoes so much that she would eat one like an apple, no knife needed.

A.L. – Loves healthy food. Hates cilantro.

K.H. – Coffee!!! Enough said.

L.Q. – Can always be counted on to mention a particular food craving RIGHT when my shift starts at work and then I have to think about food while my stomach gurgles in desperation until my shift is over. Hello? Spicy Street Noodles!

S.P. – Has been to every restaurant in the Portland Metro area (I've been to 2% of them). Currently consuming Greek food in order to satisfy 'pregger' cravings. { p.s. – thanks for the peas! }

K.R. – Is passionate about Dr. Pepper. Hates sandwiches.

when we were very young

Please forgive my week-long absence – I recently fell into the deep dark hole called facebook. Oh my, what have I done?

I joined facebook because I wanted to contact one specific person – an important message needed to be sent and facebook was my only option. Within twenty-four hours I had been 'friended' by twelve additional people. So, I committed. I took the plunge: I sent out requests to other friends and the snowball started rolling.

There's something very unsettling about suddenly knowing the day-to-day details about people that I have not spoken to for fifteen years. Sometimes I think it was nicer to be insulated from all of that and just read the yearly glorified synopsis in a holiday form letter. But hey, whatever. It is what it is.

In most instances it's nice to reconnect. Aaah, memories. Which sorta brings me to the photo shown above... the whole facebook thing got me thinking about my collection of childhood photos and I dug up the gem above. That's me. I'm not sure how old I am in the pic. I'm in my grandparents' back yard and my mother is hanging the laundry (see her feet?). I have nothing but good memories of that place...

polarized

I miss my friends. I miss talking about food all day long and having coffee cravings in unison.

blog nation

Hi y'all. I was tagged the other day by Marchi Made It and I'm playing along but in my own abbreviated way (sorry, I like to break the rules)! First and foremost, saunter on over to Marchi's blog and check out her work and her words (and make sure you check out her serene industrial photographs – they are especially nice).

The normal tagging rules require that I reveal 6 random things about myself but since I was tagged once before, I think I've already exhausted the short list of random things about me.

SO, I'm going to list FOUR things that I love about blogging:

1. You meet truly lovely people through blogging – people you would not have met otherwise.

2. Meeting people through blogging reminds me of having pen-pals – remember doing that in grade school? The whole pen-pal thing never seemed to last, but "blog-pals" don't disappear after a few weeks.

3. Blogging is my new therapy – I get better results AND I don't have to pay for it. Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

4. Reading other blogs is a good way to realize that there are things in the world that I didn't know I wanted or needed, but OBVIOUSLY I needed a pair of rainboots (in black) and it took reading about them in a blog to find that out. Whew, did that make any sense?

The normal tagging rules also require that I tag 6 other bloggers but the last time I tried that I was ignored by everyone I tagged and I just can't handle that type of rejection again. :)

I could do this forever

I have a terrible memory, but I'm pretty sure it was my friend Risa that used to ask all of us what we would choose if we could only have one food item for the rest of eternity. I think my response was always pasta. These days I'm more likely to choose Soba Noodles with Peanut Sauce or an ever-lovin' California Roll. If it wasn't Risa, then it was Jeremy or Nathan. I know for sure that it was Risa that clued me in on her 'Look-Level Theory'... the genius of which I might expound upon in a later post.

That being said, you may notice that it usually takes me a while to get to my point. If you're already tired of reading, you may want to skip to the end.

My point, dear reader, is this: if for some bizarre reason I was forced to choose one task to perform for all eternity, it would be Logo Design. I could do this forever. So why am I not designing full-time?

I'm smart enough to know that my purpose on this planet IS NOT to pick up 30 pounds of dog shit each week, but that's what I do. No loss of love for the dogs that produce the poo, dear ones, I just wonder what happened to my design career. Hmmm.
